Problem:
Revit’s management of linked files is limited to basic monitoring and visibility toggling, which does not meet the practical needs of users who require more control over linked content.
The available export options for file formats are also restricted, limiting flexibility and interoperability.
Solution:
A custom tool improves the management of linked files by mimicking functionality similar to AutoCAD’s Xref system:
Selective Object Management: Allows users to preview linked objects in different colors, filter or isolate specific elements, and perform actions such as extraction or copying without affecting the entire linked file.
Flexible Export Formats: Enables fast export to common formats like DWG, SKP, and Datasmith, allowing both 2D and 3D data to be transferred to other platforms or used in collaborative workflows.
Enhanced Linked File Control: This tool bridges the gap between Revit’s limited linked file functionality and the more detailed, dynamic capabilities needed for complex projects, boosting efficiency and interoperability with other CAD tools.
This solution extends Revit's linked file management capabilities, providing more practical tools for dealing with external references and exports.
